Discotemy and Microdiscectomy
Discectomy is a surgical procedure to repair herniated disks. The surgeon
removes the part of the herniated disc that is protruding into the spinal canal and pressing on the nerve.
Microdiscectomy is the same procedure except that the surgeon uses a special magnifier. The magnified view allows for a smaller incision.
Both procedures reduce back pain and increase mobility and function. They are done usually when all nonsurgical options have failed and are performed in tandem with a laminotomy.
