Total Joint Replacement

Replacement of a joint that has deteriorated from arthritis--osteoporosis, rheumatoid, or trauma, is an option for men and women who no longer get relief from non surgical treatment with rest, therapy and medication. For patients choosing joint replacement surgery, Stamford Hospital's Total Joint Replacement Program provides a full continuum of coordinated, multidisciplinary orthopedic care.

Our joint replacement program has been designed to support patients through every aspect of their orthopedic surgery, guided by our clinical care coordinator who is there with our patients every step of the way. At the Stamford Hospital Orthopedic Institute the focus is on educating patients about what to expect, beginning with a comprehensive pre-operative consultation that outlines what will happen before, during and after surgery.

The hospital has on staff several orthopedic surgeons who specialize in these complex joint replacement procedures, many with fellowship training. Surgeons at Stamford Hospital utilize the newest most advanced cross linked polyethylene joints.

Recovery takes place in Stamford Hospital's specialized orthopedic surgery unit, where nurses are trained to focus on pain management and joint replacement post- surgery and rehabilitative issues. On site occupational and physical therapy are also provided. Postoperative therapy can be done at the state-of-the-art Tully Health Center, and when patients are ready to resume their regular fitness routines, the medically supervised staff at the Health and Fitness Institute are always available to provide support and expert advice following joint replacement.
